Creating Inventory Items
Inventory Items represent the raw and/or produced items used and tracked in your business through inventory transactions. They are used as the ingredients that make up the products you sell.
To add a new Inventory Item, please follow the below steps:
1. Click Inventory on the side menu.
2. Click Items.
3. Click Create Item.
4. A pop-up window will open, and mandatory fields will be marked with a red star () next to the name. Click the exclamation mark () next to the name of each field for more information.
- Name (obligatory field): Enter the name of the item.
- Name Localized: The localized name of the item in a 2ndlanguage of your choice.
- SKU (obligatory field): Write a unique code for the product, you can also click Generate to get a random one.
- Storage Unit: Specify how this item will be stored (e.g. Box or KG).
- Ingredient Unit: Specify how this item will be used in your products (e.g. GRAM or ML).
- Storage_to_ingredient_factor: The conversion factor between storage unit and ingredients unit, e.g. 1000 if the storage unit is KG and ingredient unit is gram.
- Costing Method: Select whether you prefer the cost of this product to be calculated automatically based on the cost of its ingredients or you want to assign a fixed cost for it.
By clicking advanced options will get the following:
- Barcode: If you use a barcode scanner, enter this item’s barcode number here.
- Category: Select the category to which this item belongs (Click here to learn how to create inventory categories).
- Minimum Level: Select the minimum level allowed in the branch or warehouse for this item.
- Par Level: Assign the initial quantity for this item when you create a purchase order or transfer order.
- Maximum Level: Select the maximum level allowed in the branch or warehouse for this item.
5. Click Save.
You will be directed to the inventory item edit page; the screen has now been updated with the new item.
